Freeriding:
A trip to Greenland in 1992 was my first experience with sustained steeps, and 55mph powder turns. I have been addicted to riding "Extreme labeled" terrain and deep, dry powder ever since. Snowboard trips to foreign areas for documentary purposes on the TV show Sacred Ride have become a mainstay, and favorite part of, my career.

I still enjoy getting out on a carving board when possible. A BomberOnLine interview in October 2000 outlines my early snowboard roots and my development into World Cup racing.

Kiteboarding:

I picked up Kiteboarding in 1998 while on a surf trip in Maui.  It has become my new summer sport passion and my home base in Hood River is the perfect place to kite.  Snowkiting is starting to take-off as an emerging sport here in North America.  When traveling for the TV show in the winter I always have my kites on hand incase the winds come up.

Windsurfing:
I have been standing on a sailboard since the age of nine, which came well before my snowboard debut. I grew up on the Kennebecasis River and never missed a windy day.   Kiteboarding has taken over as my  “Columbia River Gorge”  sport, however nothing tops a good day of wave sailing on the coast.  I still think that a sailboard out performs just about anything in down the line surf conditions.

Surfing:
I started surfing in 1990 while in Maui for a sailboard trip. I was immediately hooked and began surfing at breaks close to Hood River on the Oregon coast. Surfing is the most challenging sport I've ever picked up. Although I do not get out as much as I would like, I prefer a good day of surfing to just about anything.

Mountain & Road Biking:
Mountain Biking has evolved tremendously over the past decade.  In the early 90’s I wore lots of lycra and it was all about climbing.  I dabbled with some competition, most notable being the 24 hours of Moab in 1997 and 1998.  Spending time in Nelson BC this summer really opened my eyes to what a person can do on a bike. I now wear armor and a full face helmet and ride a full suspension mountain bike. It is as much as compliment to my snowboarding as kiting or surfing.

When I am home I like to do morning road bike rides up to the Protor ferry and take it across and head out to the the main part of Kootenay Lake, stopping at a great little bakery for some fine cooking.

Mountain Guiding:
Since retiring from the World Cup racing in 2002, backcountry snowboarding became my focus until I was called upon to Coach the Canadian Alpine Snowboard Team. I have always managed to sneak in a few freeride trips a year to places like Alaska, Chile, and Greenland. These trips were for photo and filming shoots primarily. It was always about the “sick line” and where to place the camera man. Being responsible to guide others for a fun, safe adventure in the mountains is very different than my usual selfish fix. Not competing has given me more time to educate myself further about backcountry snowboard guiding.
